Woodville Winter Pennant Results:

Magnificent playing by our Smash Hit team resulted in the only win for our club at the finals on Saturday 14th September. Limited to only 2 players            due to the third brother and youngest not arriving in time, the Woodley boys were too strong for the opposition. Congratulations boys!!

The Annual General Meeting of the Club will be on Wednesday 30th October at 7.30pm – Your attendance is important to make a quorum so the meeting can go ahead. There will be no pressure to join the Committee, but if you want to join you will be welcome.

Ping Pong – 1950’s Asian Dominance

Although it’s said that ping-pong was introduced to the Far East by British army officers in the early 20th century, it officially became an Asian phenomenon in the early 1950s. By the time the 1952 Ping-Pong Championships were held in Mumbai, Asian players were dominating the scene. That year, Japan won four gold medals. Soon after, Mao Zedong declared table tennis as China’s national sport.

Woodville Closed Tournament

The first Sunday in November is the date for the Club Closed Tournament or Fun Day, when entry in the Tournament is free and the lunch from Harry’s Taverna is also free. This is when the Club Champion is decided – see the entry form.

Thought for the Month

It’s not about being the best – It’s about being better than you were yesterday.
